June 2003, a series of seminars were conducted for secondary school Physics teachers by Mr Peter SP Lim, held at the Balmoral Plaza branch.
Left: The participants were shown how the focal length of a converging (convex) lens can be lengthened using a diverging (biconcave) lens.
Right: Mr Peter Lim showing the participants how a weaker north magnetic pole can be attracted by a stronger north magnetic pole.
Above: Teachers attentively listen and discuss scientific puzzles given to them.
Right: A powerful rear earth magnet can be used to demonstrate the concept of Lenz' Law. Its motion down a copper tube can be slowed down significantly due to the opposing magnetic field developed by the induced current developed on the copper tube, but not when the tube used is stainless steel. The latter is not able to develop a high enough current to slow down the falling magnet significantly.

Below: Some of the participants try their hands at professional gold plating.
